Here are five tips to make your move go as smoothly as possible.
Are you planning on moving soon? It always seems like a daunting task, but if you plan ahead and follow these five tips, you’ll move without a hitch:
1. Downsize your possessions. Unless you live a minimalist lifestyle, you probably have too much stuff. Moving is a great time to get rid of everything you don’t need. Separate all your stuff into three categories: keep, throw away, and donate/sell. This will make it easier to understand what you truly need. Also, you might be able to make some extra cash off a garage sale.
2. Arrange your move. Consider your options depending on your situation. If your employer is covering your moving expenses, make sure you have everything in place for the moving company. However, if you are paying for your move, you can ask friends for help, or shop around for a good moving company.
“Moving can be daunting, but you can make it easier by planning ahead. ”
3. Get packing materials. You don’t want to ruin your valuables in a move. Purchase lots of boxing tape, and consider how you will protect your belongings. Bubble wrap is great, but you can also use old bath towels or crumpled newspapers in a pinch.
4. Start emptying your fridge. Avoid the temptation to buy more perishable food. Start cleaning out your pantry and fridge about a month before your move. Cleaning out the fridge can be a hassle, so make sure you’re on top of this.
5. Start packing right away. By right away, I mean about four weeks before your move date. Start with framed pictures, collectibles, and knick-knacks. Move on to kitchen towels and tools you don’t use often. Start with the stuff you won’t need soon, and move on to more relevant items later.
Hopefully, these tips make the moving process easier. If you have any questions, or if you have a topic you would like to see addressed, please call or email me. I am always here to help!
